about

Andreas Levisianos is a composer, conductor and musicologist from Samos Island, Greece. His work develops frameworks for making and presenting music where analysis, synthesis, and performance operate simultaneously: beginning from a prototype—a score, a text, an abstract idea, a performance system—these three modes fuse into a single generative act.

He has performed music from across the Western tradition, spanning orchestral, operatic, chamber, solo, and electroacoustic works. He served as music director and conductor of the annual Open Days festival organized by the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens, collaborating with members of Greece's major orchestras and internationally acclaimed guest artists. He has conducted ensembles and orchestras including the Harry Partch Ensemble, Orquestra da Costa Atlântica, Ensemble Orquesta, Philharmonic Ploiești, Stara Zagora Opera, Joseph Haydn Symphony Orchestra, London Classical Soloists, Ergon Ensemble, and Ensemble Continuum.

Notable operatic engagements include conducting Mozart's Don Giovanni for Ensemble OrQuesta at the Grimeborn Opera Festival (Arcola Theatre, London), described as "superlatively conducted" by London Pub Theatres, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Handel's Acis and Galatea at the Cockpit Theatre, Anne LeBaron's LSD - Huxley's Last Trip with the Harry Partch Ensemble at REDCAT, and serving as assistant conductor for the Pulitzer Prize-finalist opera Invisible Cities. He has conducted for the Jacaranda Concert Series in Los Angeles, participated in the Noon to Midnight marathon at Walt Disney Concert Hall (organized by the LA Philharmonic), and curated and conducted a portrait concert of Jani Christou at REDCAT. Other appearances include the Hear Now Festival and performances with ensembles across the U.S. and Europe.

Andreas has received international recognition, including second prize at the Wiener Schule Conducting Competition in Vienna—where he performed at the Musikverein—and third prize at the Orquestra da Costa Atlântica International Conducting Competition in Portugal.

As a composer, Andreas writes for a wide range of acoustic and electronic forces, often collaborating with choreographers, directors, and visual artists in interdisciplinary contexts. Highlights include his Radioptical Opera "Medea" (aejaa, 2021), a remote performance uniting musicians, dancers, and actors across four countries; his original contemporary musical theatre work "Thalassa Quarry" at the Kinono Festival; participation in Tectonics Athens (Arioso - 2019); and a five-hour installation/performance for Art Night London (Leake Street Canons - 2018), in collaboration with Nikolas Ventourakis and funded by the British Arts Council. Additional projects include a radio-theatre piece with Niko Palamare commisioned by the Onassis Cultural Center (Galatea - 2018), and performances at festivals such as Neapolis (Berlin), Fringe (Edinburgh), Tethering (Los Angeles), Reconnect, SEAMUS (Miami), and at CalArts. His music for the feature film "In a Fishbowl" (dir. Konstantinos Fragoulis) earned him the "Best Original Score" award at the 7th International Film Festival Anatomy. He is the co-founder and artistic director of "aejaa", an online performance platform focused on remote collaboration.

Currently based in London, Andreas also works with Universal Music Group as Director of Media Information.

He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance—Composition from the California Institute of the Arts, a dual Master's in Composition and Conducting from the University of Oklahoma, a Bachelor's degree in Musicology from the University of Athens, and a Piano Diploma from the National Conservatory of Greece.
